The Shutter Island series

Ever notice that Shutter Island and Salt both feature a character named Ted?  I did, and I'm not always sure it is a coincidence.  The whole thing, the Seth MacFarlane Ted films included, plays like a video game, where you try to pin down the character's origins and relationships to other films.  It left me with this list of my favorite of those films and the other films that it makes me think of:

Is Scorsese retiring?  I never though I would celebrate it like this......

The Hannibal series

I just rewatched the Hannibal series on DVD, and am currently rereading the books.  While I would not put them up there with Scorsese, they are a great series of movies and books.  Even Manhunter, while it initially might seem a little dated, really is a great movie with atmospheric white interior and nighttime visuals.  Red Dragon is equally good, the whole thing looking like a living room, and The Silence of the Lambs has similar strengths, has the best performances, and all around is the best by far.  I even like Hannibal, different though it is, and Hannibal Rising, which in some ways features Hannibal at his most active and fatal.  A great, great and underappreciated series.  Check them out!
